The Wildflower Story
Sybil Brooke Sylvester is the owner of Wildflower Designs in Birmingham, Alabama. Wildflower Designs, which was
located in Pepper Place Design Complex for 13 years, is now run from
Sybil's home office.
She considers Wildflower to be a "creative think tank" for flower fun,
offering daily floral delivery, arrangements for any occasion, gala and
party designs and wedding planning and coordinating. In 2000, Sybil
launched the Wildflower School, providing instruction in flower
preparation and design.
The school provides classes for beginners as well as those with some
design experience. The Wildflower School also travels around the country
with garden club lectures, corporate workshops, and in conjunction with
Parisian, floral demonstrations in their Home Stores. Recently, because
of increasing demand, "Wildflower on the Road" has plans to travel to
New York, California, North Carolina, Mississippi and Tennessee to
provide flowers for parties and weddings.
Sybil spent childhood vacations working for Birmingham flower mavens
Mrs. McReynolds and Lula Rose Blackwell. Sybil got an early education in
stripping roses and toting buckets by helping the experts. She later
worked in the city's floral industry leading up to starting her own
business in 1993. In May 1996, Sybil moved her growing business from her
garage to the shop at Pepper Place. She has been featured in Southern
Accents, Southern Living, Coastal Living, Brides Magazine and Birmingham
Magazine. Sybil and her prized team of floral designers have created
the South's most talked-about flower shops, gaining national recognition
for their captivating arrangements.
Sybil says, "I feel so fortunate to have been able to turn my hobby into
a profession that allows me to do what I love each day. The newness of
each project, designing, experimenting with color, and creating are my
favorite parts of the business. Getting to know so many wonderful people
through the business is an added bonus."
